Strange Noise

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 silverado that has had a front end whine/whistle noise for quite some time, replaced the right wheel bearing and then the left, as the right did not fix it but the truck still makes this noise. It increases with speed and is very audible from 15 mph on... Any ideas? Really am out of ideas at this point

Get up to highway speed and put it in neutral with your foot off the gas and coast to see if it's drivetrain related. If the noise doesn't change, it's reasonable to assume it's not in the drivetrain. If the noise does change, I'd look at the alternator, serpentine belt, belt tensioner, etc.

Tires are fairly new, procomp all terrain, noisy but certainly not tire noise. Its definitely in the drive train, directly related to speed. neutral doesnt change a thing. Also definitely coming from the front end. Transmission has been rebuilt and works flawlessly. Rear diff has been rebuilt and then fixed within the past 3 months so I know its not that.

How would it not changing mean its not in the drive train? Everything past the tranny still moves even when I'm neutral

Hasnt been replaced recently, leaning towards replacing front diff fluid and transfer case fluid at this point, and then maybe cvs after that, theyre pretty old as well. Just trying of throwing money at it with no result
