White Rim Trail in Canyonlands NP

Anyone ever run this trail in their stock truck. Thinking about adding that to my road trip this summer.

In for this. I plan in the next couple of years to make a large loop visiting family and taking my truck on some passes in Colorado and Utah, then hitting up the Moab area for some mountain biking and mild to medium trail running in my truck, then going to see family in Arizona and heading back via El Paso and west Texas. Will be levelled on 33's by then. Curious what trails are full size friendly in that area to hit, especially scenic to camp on.

 

I have used Tacoma world for info as that is a real informative site for stuff such as this. Not looking to be dragging the frame down ledges but something a little challenging that is more than a 2wd can handle and get me to some scenic out back areas to camp.

 

Actually this epic road trip from Motortrend really got me thinking about this more, especially the end when they are camping on the plateau under the stars over the canyon (they camped in canyonlands). Go to the 23 minute mark to see the video of the camp site, sure is epic.

 

 

 

While searching, this is pretty impressive for a non locker truck, tundra pro up hells gate (starts at 0:57). Makes me think a good tired, small lifted (2/1 levelled) Silverado/Sierra could probably do this with the locker.

I did it in a stock Tacoma with improved tires. Totally doable.

 

If doing in GMC or Chevy, I recommend you remove the front air dam first. That's all.

 

We actually ran into some French tourists doing it in a rental Toyota Yaris.

Done it several times driving SAG for family biking trips. Stock truck no problem; no air dam, no running boards, no rigid mud guards. We generally are out for a few days but it can be done in a long day or two. Or you could do an out and back and get a good taste of it.

 

Most of it is no problem but there are rough areas; issue is more "pucker factor." Some good exposure, steeps, and narrow places.

 

I also seem to always run into at least one tourist driving a rental totally not prepared. They either end up turning around when they figure it out or beat the hell out of the undercarriage. You do want something with a bit of clearance and if they were to run into any weather they would be screwed.

 

AMX -- he's definitely on the White Rim but I think that setup is for effect. Most of the campsites are great with views but I don't know of any right on an edge on bare rock. You do need reservations a few months ahead and camping is in designated spots to reduce impact. It is awesome out there.

I was thinking that would be a minimum requirement.

 

Between the locking rear end and 4x4 I think the stock Goodyears will make it unless there is a lot of mud oh course.
