auto headlight/reverse lights with key off?

Recommended Posts

It bugs me that when I shut off my truck, the headlights/reverse lights stay on. I usually stand there and watch it to make sure they turn off. And when I unlock it with the remote, they turn on for awhile too.

Is there a way to make it so only the parking lights turn on or none at all? I usually click the headlights over to "off" but sometimes I forget and its annoying that I have to do it every time.

I've got the SLE model but it doesn't have the extra buttons on the dash that the manual talks about for changing some of those options.

Most vehicles these days have this feature built into their systems. I do not think there is much you can do about it, but in the DIC there might be some options to control and/or modify the default factory settings. I actually like the feature, as it adds a sense of security in a dark parking lot or for adding light as you enter your home or garage after you park. When I go out for work and unlock my doors I can see where I'm walking, which is great when the driveway is icy during the winter. The lights go off automatically, so I really do not see an issue with it.

My truck doesn't have the extra DIC buttons for some reason. Wonder if I can add them to it?

I don't like the auto lights because every time I touch my truck, the headlights shine through my neighbors windows and I also worry that the relay will stick on someday and I'll come back to a dead battery.

My 2004 Yukon has access to the settings through the display on the dash using the buttons on the steering wheel.

I can change things like auto lock on/off, whether the remote lock flashes the lights, etc....

I added the DIC to my 2008 Silverado and there is options in the DIC to change this in the settings.

Nice! What parts did you need to do the install?

Thanks myfirstchevy I installed the DIC dash panel today. Works awesome! I was able to turn off entrance lighting and exit lighting, along with several other options.
