DIY Programming of New Key Fob?

Recommended Posts

My key fob is broken beyond duct tape. I've got a 2007 Yukon XL 1/2 ton, and I was thinking it's of a vintage where I could buy a key fob from eBay or elsewhere, and program it myself.

This video makes it look easy:

Is that really all there is to it? Or, am I missing something?

Thanks,

From the owners manual:

With the DIC buttons on the dash:

Relearn Remote Key

  2. Press the set/reset button until REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE is displayed.
  3. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the first transmitter at the same time for about 15 seconds.

On vehicles with memory recall seats, the first transmitter learned will match driver 1 and the second will match driver 2.

  4. To match additional transmitters at this time, repeat Step 3.

Each vehicle can have a maximum of eight transmitters matched to it.

  5. To exit the programming mode, you must cycle the key to LOCK.

If it's just the plastic shell that's damaged, you can buy just the shell off eBay.

Or, if you need to replace the entire fob, just make sure you get one that matches the codes on the backside of the fob.

Since it was only $18, shipped, I went ahead & bought a whole new fob (matching numbers). Heck, it's Christmas, after all. :D

Thanks for the help.
