2009 2500HD Power Steering

The other day I was driving my '73 Cadillac and began to wonder how a car that weighs 5600 lbs with over 60% of that weight sitting on the front tires, could steer so easily. I mean, you can park it with just putting your pointer finger in one of the spokes and turning it. I got back in my truck and the steering felt ridiculously hard in comparison. For what it's worth, I also remember my cousins '87 GMC 3/4 ton 4wd having really easy steering as well

 

I guess I'm asking, what happened? Is there a way to make the newer trucks have the same feeling?
