Temp gauge and coolant leaking problems! 2013silverado

Hi,

This is my first topic in this forum, and i am lookingg forward to b part of this great community.

I got 2 problems thats giving me headache!

I got a 2013 Silverado 1500 CrewCab, it got 89000 Kilometers (around 55000miles) -im from UAE thats why it says Kms instead of Miles-

1st problem: the temp gauge on the dashbaord is fluctuating. When I start it, it does its normal swipe to the end then works normally. Then after i use it, the needle goes to 100C (around 200F) which i think is normal, however, the problem is after several minutes of normal drivig and constant speed (Cruise control is on) the gauge start going up,, and then suddenly it goes all its way down to the most cold part at 75C around 160F!! I dont know whats the problem! And sometimes it goes way high over 220F , and fans start working, also sometimes when the gauge is working fine, between 160F and 220F it also start the fans, and they work hard on cooling!!

Someone told me to check electrical prt of it, when i did it was fine.

I changed the Thermo sensor, provlem gone for 2 days, then boom its back!!

2nd problem is related somehow!! I have a coolant leak from the left side engine head (if you facingg the car, the head on the left side) (or the one thats nearer to the air filter intake) .. Someone also told me to change the water pump, yet i am not convinced!! I did some cleaning to the radiator, and refilled it with new coolant.

Problem still accures, sometimes the temp gauge goes really high above 220F which makes me scared a lil bit and i turn off the truck for 10mins then start it again.

Another guy said my Head gasket can be cracked! I dont want to open the engine heads till im sure the problem is from the gasket! My car still as new as i first took it from the dealer.

I hope i gave suffecient information for you guys to help me.

Waiting your responses.

Thanks and Best Regards,

AL

The symptoms you describe sound like an air pocket in the system. Probably introduced by the leak. Fix the leak, fill the system and I would bet the problem is found.

Thats what i am wondering about! Is the leak caused by the water pump? Or the heads gasket?

That is something you are going to have to find out. Best answer without pressure testing the cooling system and actually finding the leak is going to be; Maybe it's the water pump, head gasket, heater hoses, heater core, radiator hoses, radiator, ect...
