Has anyone had there automatic window switches out? on the drivers side we have control over both windows but only "Automatic" on the drivers side, why? are the two switches on the drivers side sepperate or are they molded together? If they are sepperate could I replace the drivers side passenger window switch with a drivers side automatic from another truck or parts store?  ???  ???  ???  :chevy:  :)

My 2003 has automatic on both windows from the drivers side, maybe you could get a switch for a 2003.

What BCNU said, but you should know that they redesigned how the window switch works for the '03.  Instead of a rocker, it's now push down for open, and pull up for close.

So there might be a difference in how this new design fits, and is driven from the older design, etc.  Just to let you know.

I definitely like the auto down on the passenger side from the driver side switch!  :thumb:

On my 99 tahoe.  Could I just replace the passenger switch to a driver switch.  I only want to do it for the drivers controlls.  I think that all driver controlls should be auto down.  Think that the old style switch will work?

You cannot replace the passenger side switch with a driver side switch because it's a complete assembly.

You cannot replace the 99-02 switch plate with an 03+ switch plate because 03+ switches operate by transmitting data on a serial data bus!  What a complex way to tackle what would have otherwise been a simple circuit.  :chevy:

Anyway, I have heard of aftermarket modules that would work like Clifford SmartWindows II or the DEI 530T.  GM also has used outboard express-down modules in some cars, and the one in our 94 Cutlass convertible will do express-down of 4 windows.

EDIT: Just found this

Dual Express Down mod on an F-body

I've been searching for a while.  I found AutoLoc express down (and Up) module.  But you need 1 per window and their about $70 each.  But the installation is about the same as the 4th gen F-body site.  I got one module installed and I temporarily hooked power up to the radio power and it worked great.

And now that the weather is warmer, I need to get outside and hook up the rest of the modules.

-EDIT-

I found my receipt, it was $70 for 2 modules, $140 for 4 after shipping.  Sorry, my memory must have been effected from holding the window buttons down for so long!

For $70 each, I think the DEI 530T would be better.

This place has it for $60+shipping: http://www.caraudioexpress.com/dei.htm

530T does 2 windows, auto down and auto UP.

It can also be set to close or vent your windows via remote control.  I know the GM add-on alarm VSC3400 can add an additional channel to the factory keyless entry so if you press LOCK twice via remote, it can activate some accessory.  It would be pretty cool to be able to press LOCK twice on the remote and close the windows.

You should see the multiplexing on a Chrysler! I installed a remote starter on a newer chrysler, and was quite amazed at the amount of multiplexing. It really does cut down the amoutn of wiring when they use resistor values to operate the accesories through a body control module, and reduces strain on wiring and switches as they don't need to carry any current. Quite interesting to be able to turn on the headlights and honk the horn from the scan tool!
