Rear Shock Issue

Noticed a noise recently when I was moving around in the bed but didn't think much of it. Today I was attempting to install the perimeter bed lighting and found this on the drivers side rear shock. I plan on bringing it in as the truck only has 5,000 miles but was wondering if anyone else had this issue. Passenger side shock housing is much closer on one side than the other but is not rubbing as it is on the drivers side.

These are the OEM shocks that just have the metal housing and no dust cover. The top section is rubbing on the bottom section as it travels up and down which it should not.

That's just a plastic dust cover

The dealership replaced the shock but you were totally right that the top part is just a plastic dust cover. My bad on that.
