2008 GMC Sierra 5.3l AFM and Oil Consumption

Hi,

I've read a lot of posts in reference to this issue - but no reference to costs since a lot of the work was done under warranty. My truck is definitely losing oil somewhere. Any idea what the piston/seal repairs cost?

 

Currently 170K miles on it.

Plugs and wires replaced around 160K.

Had the oil gauge fail, replaced the pressure switch and it's filter - gauge works again.

 

Engine had been consuming more than typical oil since about 140K - but not more than a quart or two in between changes. Now the dipstick is showing me nothing after 2000 miles since the last change. No visible leaks or puddles anywhere.

 

Haven't taken it into a dealer yet because I'm in denial and don't want to dump any more money into repairs. I still love the truck, though, and I'm not quite ready to part with it yet!
