Should I buy?

I have a friend who is selling his American Racing Atlas 16x8 wheels and almost new 305/70/16 BFG Mud TA's off a 2003 F150 for $900.  He just had them put on and they were not big enough so he's getting a 6" lift and running 315's with 17x10 wheels.  I know it is a great price but I don't know if they will fit my truck without rubbing.  Anyone have pics of a stock 2001 Z71 with 16x8's and 285 or 305's or know someone that does?  What do ya'll think.  Buy them and if they don't fit try to sell for more $$???

I am fixing to buy new BFG's this summer (I still have the stock Firestones) and I am also considering getting American Racing wheels - either Atlas or Pythons.  If the tires/wheels are new, that is an awesome price.  I actually saw a dealership put 16x8's with 305's on a Z71 as a "dealer added option"...so I am assuming they won't rub.  I am planning on doing BFG All-terrain 285/75/16 with 16x8 wheels.  Also going to get the t-bars cranked...it will probably look like an entirely different truck when finished.  I say go for it...

I've got 285's on 16x10 mb's.  no rubbing with new torsion bars.  I used Hill's ($150) kit but ford's are the same thing and cheaper.

Unless I'm mistaking Ford F150's are 5 lug and yours is a 6 lug. Are you just planning to swap tires. The 305's are too big for the stock 16" Chevy wheels. My friend tried to run a set like that. It wore the centers out pretty quick. ...and they rubbed.

Good Call...It didn't even click with me until I read your post:  Ford F-150's are only 5 lugs while chevy's are 6.  Won't work.  Sorry.  After reading 2 posts up though, I am still planning on buying BFG's this summer.

Hey alantdick,   I am buying BFG's this weekend.  So am I a bad american?  I am still pissed about the French but I also like Some of there products.  And I still like French Toast.  Oh well.  I said my bit.  Sorry but that just pissed me off.

I didn't even think about the bolt pattern...good call.  Well, I wonder if I should buy them anyway for the tires then sell the wheels.  That would really offset the cost of new wheels for me.  I really like those Atlas.  I am worried about the 16x8's being to wide for a stock truck.  I've seen some z71's on the road before with them and they looked like they'd rub, but they looked awesome!  This is a tough decision.

Im sorry but we live in a global economy.  I cant stand what the french did it was totally wrong( i bought my bfgs way before any of this happened).  Would i buy them again?  Maybe but i do like the good year mtrs.  Why am i saying anything???  Because I know some people who work for michelin (they also own bfg).  So why should we boycott a company that could cost americans jobs???  Doesnt make sense to me.

Your stock wheels are 7 or 7.5 inches wide. The width isn't going to matter much. It's the backset you have to watch out for. Stock Chevy wheels have 5 or 5.5 inch backsets. Most aftermarket wheels are 4 inch. That means your wheels will stick out 1 to 1.5 inches further. The further they stick out the more likely they will rub. If you buy any aftermarket wheels you want to make sure you get close as possible to the stock backset unless you want to lift the truck. I'm running 315's on 16x8's with no problems. They are wearing great and very little cupping.

 

American racing Atlas 660-6838 w/ 4.5 backset and 6 on 5.5 are what you want for your truck, if you like the Atlas.

I wrote Michelin about this.  Their response was that BFGoodrich tires sold in America are still made in America using American labor, machinery, materials.   Boycoting BFG's will be more costly to Americans than the French.
