Removing oil filler tube

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, my oil filler tube o ring is leaking a good amount. The seal is actually twisted in there for whatever reason and needs to be replaced. Question, how do you remove the filler tube? Some guys say the valve cover needs to be taken off because there is a tab inside, others say you can rotate the neck 180 degrees and pull it out. Also, I have heard some guys just throw out the filler tube and put the cap right on the valve cover. Can this work? My truck is a 2001 Silverado 2500HD with the gas 6.0

Took it out today. For anyone reading this, you need to take off the valve cover to get it off right. I didn't take the cover off, and it came out. The little tab broke off but luckily for me it was dangling by a thread to the filler tube. It was a 1 in a million lucky chance
