94 silverado 4wd problem

94 silverado auto trans won't go into 4wd. Was working recently then just quit. If put into 4wd low range will go into low range but still no 4wd. No 4wd in high or low range.

Probably bad actuators... that is the most common problem with trucks in that range of years.

Probably the actulator. Ask the dealer about upgrading to the new style. on my old truck it cost me about $100 and gave me almost instant 4wd in all weather conditions.

You can check e-bay . There are a whole lot of listings for those actuators all the time at a fraction of the cost from a stealer

When the actuator on my 95 Silverado went bad it was like four wheel was working great then an instant later there was no more four wheel. The fuse in the fuse panel was blown and when I replaced it it immediately blew again. The new actuator fixed the problem and I had no more trouble whti it.

are you guys saying i can upgrade my manual lever transfer case to an electronic one.. and how easy is it, if possible??

No, you are only going to be replacing the actuator on the front axle, that is powered when the transfercase lever is moved into a 4wd position. Yours is a thermal unit, you can upgrade to an electronic 'dog' and never really have to sorry about it again. the electronic ones eliminate that delay when shifting into or out of 4wd as well. They list for around $96.90 I beleive.

I just realized that my 4x4 isn't going into 4x4..

The front light did light up just once but after that it stopped..

How is the actuator activated?? I need details so I can see what is wrong.

I do know where the actuator is.. I just can't find how it is triggered..

It goes into 4L and the front driveshaft spins.. the wheels just don't move.. they stay free.

** also please tell me the No Nos on riding in 4L or 4H at what speeds and how long **

oh and I did check the 25 amp fuse.. it is good.

It is like the actuator isn't even coming on.. there is no apparent spark from the fuse (upon insertion) when it is in 4wd indicating no current nor is the light on..

wouldn't the light come on at least for the front..

the rear one does.. but it stays on always anyways.

When the actuators went bad in my S10, the light wouldn't come on unless the front wheels actually engaged. When they started to go bad, I would have to drive about 1/2 mile before they finally did engage.

If the actuators are bad, I would guess there would be no power draw through the curcuit???
