Canyon key

Is the 2016 Canyon key a "smart key"? I ordered chrome covers for door handles, tail gate, but the chrome tail gate key hole is too small for the key to be inserted fully. I could attempt to enlarge the hole in the chrome (plastic) or round off the key. But, if it's a smart key............

It's got a chip in it if that's what you mean, they all do. I'd not modify either, just get a different handle cover, had one on my sierra that worked but, the GMC key was a little different than Chevy key.
