New fog light

So I put these LED fog lights in this spring and I just thought I would ask about them today. Whenever I turn the fog lights on the radio gets a little crackly and some radio stations from farther away are completely lost. Is the less resistance from the LEDs affecting the radio somehow? I also put Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's in at the same time as the fogs and one has burnt out already. Could that be linked together?

Resistance shouldn't have anything to do with it since I have leds in my fogs also. That being said, I don't know what would cause it

Probably creating EMI/RFI (Electromagnetic/Radio Frequency) noise on the wiring the radio then picks up.

You can research filtering, etc. Just snapping some old ferrites off of computer cables around the wiring near the fog lights might stop it.

 

As for the Silverstars they tend to be short lived. Spring sounds too soon though unless you do a lot of night driving.

I dont do that much night driving and when I do I have my fogs and low beams on and barely switch back and forth to my highs. I even pulled the fuse for DRLS but that's mainly because I like the 2 ambers in my headlights and the fog lights better anyways lol

I always go with the regular Silverstar bulbs. The Ultra's go out way to quick.

I've also noticed that when the windows are up and I quickly hit the switches just to make sure they're all the way up, the headlights quickly dim down and right back. I'm assuming too small of ground wires? All cables are tight and clean. I tried searching on here but can't seem to find any other topics. Any tips or links to other posts? Thanks.

I believe that's a normal thing with these trucks. Everyone I've owned (4) has done that.

which year of your trucks? you can try the filter, but not sure which filter could help you.

I have led headlight bulbs on my motorcycle, alot of people have had poor radio reception after making thr switch but i guess i am lucky. This seems very common with leds

That's right, because the frequency of some radio stations overlap with the LED's driver.
