Exhaust and headers or just exhaust

hey guys, new member here from CA. just picked up a used 2003 GMC 5.3L it currently has K&N and a tail pipe welded on. I'm looking to get exhaust at least and possibly headers as well. any recommendations? should I do both or is it not really worth it performance and money wise? Also, what do you guys recommend for exhaust/headers? I have had flowmaster's before only, and I hear a lot of people say super 10 or 40 series. anything else??

Well first on headers, do you want to remove them every 2 years to smog?

No I'd get a carb sticker. I had gibson headers and Flowmaster on my 94 blazer. No problems with smog.
