Speedometer cable goes to??

I was thinking about it, and when I put my truck in 4L it is really geared high and shifts through gears fast.. (and I get to like OD at 20mph or so.. hehe) so the transmission obviously doesn't turn the speedometer cable or it would say like 100mph at 20.

 

So where does the speedometer cable hook into to get turned regardless of the transfer case/transmission.

 

I could see it going into the transfer case maybe on the output of the driveshaft.. or the driveshaft itself, or even the wheel??

There is a speed sensor in the transfere case. Screws in I beleive at the front of the case.
