03 GM Climatecontrol

This past week or so it's been getting pretty hot here in TX. I've noticed that on the days when outside temp is around 90 to 95, the automatic climate control will automatically turn the reciruclate on and the fan way up. This makes sense - its trying to cool the truck. Every time this has happened though, once it gets cool - it won't turn it back off - or lower the fan. Seems to be stuck in high gear, until I push the button to turn it back to fresh air vs. recirculate. One time I let it go for about 30 minutes, another I've let it go as long as 45 minutes - You could hang meat in the truck - I gave up on it and decided it wasn't going to back off.

Anyone else notice this - consider it a problem? If it never has to kick up to high gear and turn the recirculate on - like on an 80 degree day outside - it works very well to control the temp - but on the hotter days - once she starts to cool - she doesn't back off.

That doesn't sound right. I live out in the desert, we hit 113 yesterday and when I run the auto climate controls it starts out like yours does, but it does eventually back down.

I would have the stealer check it out.

I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but I believe that when you turn the temperature control to all the way cold, it will automatiacally go into the recirculate mode if it is hot, where as if it is just above the max cold, it will stay out of the automatic mode. Atleast that's how it seems to work in mine. You could always roll down the windows every 30 minutes to stay warmer.

Thanks for the feedback - did it again today - set on 74 fully auto, passenger override engaged - only 88 outside - came on full - would never back down. I know I can override the fan - but that defeats the purpose of Climate control. So guess it'll be a small question/problem for the dealer the first time it ever hast to go in. Its not earth shattering at all - just wonder why it won't back down after it cools the truck. Thanks again to all.

Seems like I fixed my A/C from freezing me out last week. The sad part about it - I also had caused the problem.

I really like to know what all the parts are in the truck - someone posted here a few weeks ago about the little round grill above your head in the 2003 in the headliner. So after hearing there was a tiny fan in there to pull in air I had to check mine out. I pulled the plastic grill off and sure enough - just as it should have been there was the little fan. I pushed the grill back in and didn't think much more about it.

Early last week - I could hear that fan rattle a little when the stereo was turned up with some bass. So I pulled the grill back off and began investigating. The fan was off center of the hole and I noticed that it has 4 notches in it - that the grill clips into. Just pushing the grill back in won't clip them back together. The fan was rattling loose up there and had slid down so that it wasn't pulling any air into that cavity so the A/C could properly control the temp. I was able to pull down on the headliner - slide my hand in there - push the fan back into place and put it back together like it was supposed to be.

The next trip - I realized the A/C seemed to be working perfectly. Keeps the temp where it should be and slows down way before it freezes me out.

So the lesson - I probably don't need to see all the details of my truck - but if you are like me and have pulled that little grill off - make sure you get the fan back in place and snap the grill into it so it'll properly pulls cab air into where the sensor is.
