P0011 Code '09 Sierra Denali 6.2L

My CE light came on when I accidentally pushed the tow/haul button while shifting from reverse to drive. At first it seemed like nothing changed. A couple days later it started to make this ticking noise (almost like an exhaust leak) after driving for about 15 minutes and it progressively gets louder from then on. My cruise control works intermittently and I have a P0011 code for the CE light. Can anyone give me ideas what to check in order to diagnose the problem because I've been chasing ghosts the past few days. Thanks!

Right, I can't figure out where to start in order to remove the problem

check oil level, change if dirty. your truck uses oil pressure to change cam timing.

I have had to replace a couple of actuators now. Sometimes the oil screen is full of junk, sometimes they just fail.

If the screen is full of junk, the motor had not been serviced very frequently (or at least not enough to prevent sludge).

After a few weeks of headaches and a visit to my local trusted shop I found that I was losing oil somehow. Though my oil pressure didn't change much (if at all). It was sickening to watch as 4 quarts were put in. However no reason for such a quick loss of oil was given...

Just my opinion, but, I am pretty convinced that you have to be very picky with the service intervals and oil quality of what you are running in these motors. This latest generation uses the oil pressure for more than lubrication.

It is very prudent to check oil level every 500 miles or so also, as you have experienced.

I do not trust the oil life monitor as more than a guide and I do not let it go much farther than 40% or so life remaining.

Run a good quality synthetic, Dexos rated oil and change it regularly. These engines will not tolerate neglect.
