Need help!! Horrible noises from front drive line

A couple days ago, my 2008 GMC sierra began making horrible noises from the front end. The noise is slow and not so loud at first, then as speed increases, the noise becomes more frequent and much louder. The noise sounds like 2 large wrenches being hit together. Also, it makes a popping noise when I make sharp turns. There is very noticeable wheel wobble at about 40 mph. At first I thought it was the wheel hub assembly, but after removing the hub assembly and spinning it freely in my hands, I determined this was not the cause. I suspect either the half shaft needs to be replaced due to a bad cv joint, or the front transaxle is messed up. I also notice that when I spin the driver side front tire, the half shaft spins. But when I spin the passenger side front tire, the half shaft does not spin. The half shaft not spinning doesn't make sense as the half shaft and wheel hub assemblies are splined together. Does anyone have any idea where I should go from here?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
