285's on 1997 K1500?

Looking at new tires and saw a lot of people talking about their 285's on their 99-03 models, but no mention of the 88-98 models?

I just have the standard stock 16" rims that come with the Z71 package? Will the 285's fit with no lift?

Also, to people that have 285's?? Are their any advantages, disadvantages besides the cool look and the pain of having your speedo and odometer off?

I'm looking at the Bridgestone Dueler Revo A/T's.

Advantage? of a bigger tire? isnt that justifyable in it self? lol They basically will just be for looks on the vast majority of trucks. In many cases, a larger tire will allow for a wider footrpint and less sinking, or larger diameter for better climbing and wheeling ability.

You can get a Hypertech PowerProgrammer to compensate for the larger tires, and change shift points, tranny line pressure and some other goodies like timing advance for a little more power.

The biggest i will go is 265-75 because none of the local tire shops will install 285s

If you go that way let us know how they work out

This is my friends truck. It has 295/75/16 BFG ATs. They only rubbed very slightly during hard left-hand turns. But only a few days after he got them we put on his body lift. I dont think you would have a problem with 285s.

I don't have the 285's, I had a set of 15x10 rims with 33x12.50's on them that I put on my 97. I've not had any problems they are the same height as the 285's, just wider. I did crank the t-bars some, but the ride is still fine. With stock rims I don't think you'd rub, and if you did, it would probably be on the plastic pieces, which you could trim, I did some. I've got the Bridgestone AT Revo's on my 97 4Runner 265/75/16 and I love the ride, great is snow, rain, and can get around on the farm fine. Chris

They'll fit might take a little T-Bar tweaking but they'll fit.. And if they rubb they'll rub your bumper and a part of your frame in the fender well so no worries.

I had two sets of 285's on my 97 Z71 and didn't experience any problems. The first set were BFG-MT's and I had the tortion bars tightened up when I had the tires installed. Althought the MT's were excellent for off road use, they were noisy. For the second set, I went with BFG-AT's which I liked better for all around use. I recently sold my 97 and bought a new 2003. One of the first things I did was visit my local Firestone/Bridgestone dealer and "trade up" the stock 265's for a set of 285 Revos. So far, I'm very pleased with the Revos and prefer them to the other tires I've used. As for any negatives from going from 265's to 285's, such as innaccurate speedometer readings, difficulty towing heavy loads or reduced gas milage, I haven't noticied any.
