Ok, this is a complete mess and I have no clue where to turn...

When I hit my brakes at night, the lights do not turn on, the flasher lights turn on and do not flash.

If I try to turn on a flasher it blinks fast until I hit the brake pedal. Once I do, it stops blinking all together and both left and right just stay on until I turn them off.

In the day time, the headlights work, it is only when it is at night time that this issue exists.

Now, one of my kids knocked off the cover on my license plate lights around the same time, not sure if that would hae anything at all to do with it.

Last night, for a minute or so, when I pushed down on the parking brake, and then hit my brakes, I got them to turn on like they are supposed to. I was just messing around with it. The parking brake does go down incredibly easy, not sure if that is the problem.

I have replaced the flasher (black box) and that did nothing. Any clue where to go? I need to do this myself. I cannot afford to take it any place that is going to charge a lot of money, yet I still need to drive it for work.

Check the wiring back there. Do you have trailer wiring?

Pretty common to have bad trailer light wiring or broken/shorted wiring and subsequent problems.

Yes there is. It was like that when I bought it 2 yrs ago, I've never messed with it. There was a plug under the bumper that I've unplugged and a wire with 2 connectors under the dash and I've disconnected both connectors. How it's actually wired up, I'd love to know.
