Lowering New Truck - Help Needed

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I am in the market for a new 2016 or 2017 Silverado (either crew cab/short bed or regular cab/short bed). I currently drive a 2004 GMC Sierra extended cab/short bed with a 5.3 L and feel it's time for a new truck.

I've always thought lowered trucks looked awesome so I'm leaning towards getting the regular cab/short bed and lowering it. Before I make this purchase, I have several questions regarding the process.

  • Once lowered is it ever possible to go back to the original/factory suspension?
  • If I keep the original 20's the truck comes with from the factory, how low would you go to avoid any scraping or rubbing?
  • What tire size looks the cleanest with 20's and suspension as low as possible avoiding scraping or rubbing?
  • How much lower should you drop the back so that the truck is perfectly level?
  • What lowering kits would you recommend for the smoothest possible ride? I do not mind paying a premium for a quality job. Please keep in mind I am new to this process so I do not know much.
  • I've tried building the truck online and don't see an option for the 6.2 L engine. Is there a way to have it built this way?

That's all I have for now. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike

Only help I can offer is the 6.2 engine is only available in the LTZ trim or High Country. Its not available in a standard cab configuration in any trim level.
