Transfer case fluid

I have a 99 Tahoe with the autotrac 4WD. How often are you supposed to change the fluid in the transfer case and what fluid do you use?

Unless you run it extremely hard, I wouldn't change it any sooner than the factory recommends. Definitely use the new blue stuff. I believe it is synthetic and it made a world of difference in my '99.

It depends on your mileage. I would change it after the first 15k, then at 50k, then at 100k. Not a regular interval, but I think there is much to gain from doing the first change early.

GM Blue vote as well.

Did the first change on my 99 at 36k or so last fall. I went with the new blue fluid, which is supposed to assist in quieting the driveline clunk.

Not sure of the part # but yes the name is Autotrack II. The Dealer will know what you need. Tell them the blue stuff. I changed mine right after I bought it. It turned out it was never changed in 65k miles. Yowsa that is scarry. I will brobably change it ever year since I have over sized tires and I can't afford to change Gears. Will change the whole Drive line fluids yearly.

Brandon
