Dome light switch

Hey guys, I have a 2001 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0. It's a single cab. I have replaced the 2 factory floor lights with red LEDs, which add a cool look to the floor at night. Right now, I have the dome light bulb removed so that the factory switch turns just the red floor lights on and off. What I would like to do is add a switch to the dome light so that if I have the added in switch on, the factory switch will turn on/off the red floor lights and the white dome light. If I have the added in switch off, the factory switch will only control the red floor lights. How can I do this? I took apart the dome light and there is not enough play in the wires there to get a switch in there. Where does that wire run? Is there an easy place I can drill through, grab the wires, and add in a switch? Thanks

I would suggest buying a little bit of wire and some connectors to splice in a switch.

New plan I guess......I tore apart pretty much all the plastic in the truck and could not find the elusive orange and white wires that go to the dome light. I guess I'll leave it how it is and rig up white lights on a completely new circuit

Tap into the light switch on the left side of dash, the round wheel turns on that circuit too

That's the one I was trying to find. In my truck, that wheel does the 2 floor lights and dome light. Right now I have the dome bulb removed and I'm using that wheel to click on my red floor bulbs
