MotorcarManor Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I purchased a brand new 2015 1500 with the 6.2 and 8 speed transmission back on 3/2015. I really loved the power and extra towing capabilities of the 6.2 over the 5.3 option. That being said, the extra power is not worth the constant problems I have had with the transmission and now the motor! At 6500 miles I brought the truck in for a transmission vibration. They reprogrammed the trans. It never really fixed the problem, but I just went with it. At 19,515 miles I brought the truck in for service on the transmission again. This time the truck was shifting erratically and while stopped, there was a 5 to 6 second delay between shifting the trans in drive or reverse. GM decided to replace the trans with a new one. Also a axle seal was leaking which at 19,000 miles is a little crazy. At 26,533 miles the truck was back at the service department, again, problems with the transmission and a bonus engine ticking sound. I told them the trans is having the same problems as last time but that I hear a ticking noise from the head, maybe its a valve? TheY explained to me that it may be the fuel delivery system making the noise which is normal. I knew that from the boards that it was possible however, the ticking would go faster as the rpms went up. Four hours later, I received a phone call from the service department. "Ive been working in service for 40 years and I have never had a customer come in here with both trans and motor issues!" As it turns out, GM is replacing the trans yet again and the engine will need the top end rebuilt due to a bad lifter. So after all of this, I contact GM about my issues. I tell them I want to be compensated and that I do not feel comfortable with this truck anymore. I would like for GM to buy it back or some other compensation toward a new vehicle. They have a regional rep take a look into it and will get back to me within 24 to 48 hours. On the 48th hour exactly, I get a call saying that GM will not buy the vehicle back and that it doesn't fit in the lemon law criteria because I am beyond the miles. Right away I was angry because at no time did I bring up the lemon law which in my opinion means they arent willing to help me out with their faulty product. They did say, not to worry because I still have plenty of time with the drive-train warranty. Am I supposed to feel okay now??? I am very upset with GM as I am loyal to their brand owning 7 new GM products since 2007. This is a mechanical machine and sometimes things just go wrong with them. That being said, when the same thing goes bad multiple times, there is clearly and engineering issue. All GM said is, this is why you have a warranty. If you put out such a great product, I shouldn't need a warranty! If I decide to sell or trade in this truck, who is going to give me a good price on it. When someone looks up the VIN, they will see all the issues its had. You would have to be out of your mind to want this truck!!! Will GM give me compensation of the devaluing from all the issues? Answer: NOPE!
k5blzr Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 That sucks! I have the same truck...just turned 12,000 miles. The only thing that I have noticed so far is a 2-3 second delay between starting it up, putting it in D and when the trans applies power to the axles. Sometimes I forget and give it gas before it is ready and with all that torque, it feels like I should be breaking something when the trans does engage. Can't be good for anything! I also have a rear turn signal that keeps burning up bulbs. I was going to mention the trans weirdness when I take it in to get the turn signal fixed. I don't think you will have any trouble selling that truck. In my area, these are very rare and desirable. Once the kinks are worked out it should be a good reliable truck. Sucks that you have to spend that much time at the dealer and without your tow rig though!
MotorcarManor Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 It has just gotten to the point where I don't feel comfortable with my kids in the truck or driving long distances. I understand that sometimes in the car world, you get a dud. I guess I will wait another 6,000 miles for the trans to go again, then maybe GM will do something.
