One question regarding the wreck... Do you think the insurance company can try and no total it? I really dont see how, because you can clearly see the frame is twisted. I'm only 16 year's old so my insurance is already gonna go up tremendously, I d**n well better get me a new truck :)

That sucks. I am glad to hear you are ok. To bad it will be deemed your fault. Good luck. If you had Full coverage then it will be covered. But I don't think that you will get all the money to get a new one. Again Good luck and let us know what happens.

From the photo's I'd guess it will likely be totalled, but don't expect a "new" truck. You'll get a check for the current book value which you can use to pay off the finance company and the remainder down payment on your next vehicle.

Wow. Glad you are OK. No. You will not get a check for a new truck. You will get a check for the value of a similar truck - maybe a little more. I totalled a 98 Concorde a couple of years ago and State Farm gave me $14000 which was about $4000 over what I thought the blue book value was. Dunno if that is typical but I was a happy customer.

Great you're not injured.

It'll be a total. Provided you have comprehesive and if you had a loan on it you did have comp.

So the insurance company will find the average retail market price whether that be individual owner sales or dealer for a similar condition, year, make, model, mileage. That'll be determined as the compensatory value to you minus your comprehesive deductable. If there is a lein holder (finanace company), they would be issued the funds not you. Then there is the dark side of leasing or loan. If you were upside down in the financing. For example your loan or lease balance was (what principal amount you still owe) is $16,000, the insurance company market values the vehicle at $14,000 and your deductable was $500. The insurance company would issue the finance company a check for $13,500 and you would still owe the finance company $2,500, and usually due at once.

It's a life lesson. A couple of ways to avoid being upside down, one being getting an "negative value" rider (different names with different insurances) which you pay extra on your insurance and that payment is based upon the value difference of loan to market. Two study the market values trends of past vehicle years and place enough down so that you are at least $2,000 in principal to market and pay at least an extra $25-$50 month on the calculate monthly payment. Although with the past almost two years of heavy rebates, it'll be very hard to even guessimate the market value.

...or commonly know as Gap Insurance. :)

Good to hear your ok. My sister totaled her impala a couple months ago and the insurance company gave her about 3500 more than it listed for.

Wow. I'm glad you're OK. That looks like it hurt.

How fast were you going? I hate to think that our trucks are that easy to damage but if you hit a tree, I'm guessing you weren't on an interstate and therefore not going very fast.

Good luck getting it resolved.

Glad your alright. The truck will be totaled. It has major structural damage. The door frame is all jacked up, so it will cost too much to get fixed. You might even have frame damage. As far as insurance goes, you will claim it under collision, not comprehensive. Comprehensive covers things like hail damage, a cracked windshield, a tree falling on your truck, etc. Things out of your control. Collision covers what happened to you.
