How do you prevent OEM running boards from causing stone chips in pain

Just traded my 2014 for a 2017. It had multiple paint chips on the lower part of the doors.

 

It appears that gravel leaves the tires, just missing the lower part of the mud flaps, then hits the front of the running boards, where some of the rocks fly up over the boards and hit the lower part of the boards. The vinyl covers at the front of the boards looks like it was shelled in WWII.

Never had that issue. Maybe try larger flaps if the ones you have on right now aren't catching the gravel.

You need these Gatorbacks... They are oversized mud flaps and work great/look good. I also had chrome running boards on my truck (prior to the mud flaps) and found the bottom riddled in rock chips. Better the bottom of my running boards than my truck I guess. Some people will Line-X the bottom part of the rocker panels but I have mixed feelings on that.

i have the factory mud flaps and i have never had that issue

I will have to look for those flaps. The underside of my boards were also loaded with stone chips in the chrome. I sanded the H out of them, then navel jelly, then used a truck bed liner. No chrome boards ever again, only SS.
