2003 2500hd 6.0 4x4 advice

Hey guys i'm looking at purchasing a 2003 2500hd 6.0 4x4 with 260 000km for $1000cad. (These usually go for $3500 and up locally)

 

There are only a few things that need attention with it:

 

-oil pressure gauge maxed out (im pretty sure it was reading max before i turned the engine on so im assuming its the cluster but will verify tomorrow)

 

-a few bubbles on the oil dipstick after running for only a minute but could trll it hasnt been changed in a while (only concerned since there was a low coolant warning too)

 

-Transfer case had been fixed at some point, it works but is tough to get into 4 low and 4 hi and looks in need of a new seal

 

Anyone been through these issues or helped a friend with them?

 

Any other issues i should check for?

 

Im ok doing some work but not looking to do a head gasket or oil pump lol

There will likely be an oil pressure sensor. Could be that causing the high reading. I'd be tempted to change the oil first though and see what comes out of it. Metal = not good.

When going into 4lo be sure the truck is stopped and in neutral.With one smooth but firm continuous move push the shifter all the way forward.You'll likely hear and feel a little grinding but that shouldn't hurt anything.If for some reason this doesn't work put the trans in neutral and with your foot on the brake pedal and engine off push the shifter all the way forward,it should go in easily.Start the engine and still with you foot on the pedal put the trans in low gear,it will probably jump forward because of the gearing advantage of 4lo.As far as 4hi goes just a firm pull all the way rearward should put it in 4hi,it's easier if the truck is moving a little.They say these trucks can be put into 4hi while moving a moderate speeds,don't know,never tried it.

 

One more thing......never drive on dry pavement while in 4wd.

It did work the first couple of times and then it wouldnt go in all the way and wouldnt stop grinding, had to shut the truck off to shift the transfer case back to 2hi. The transfer case is a filthy beast so i'll have to clean it up and see whats going on, ill most likely just pull a lower mileage one out to replace it with
