a deer ran into the side of my truck this morniong   :D fortunatly the damage is limited to the drivers door :sideways:

I already called my inshurance company and have an apointment for a apraisel tomorro,

I am wondewring how much a new "prepainted to mach" door from GM costs? anybody have a part #? can u order tham pre painted? I would hate to try to get the check and find out that I cannot get a door for that price I need just the main part of the door, the window, inner skin and mirror are fine

the window makes a bit of noise whn rolling down may need the track inside  also

If I can get the check for the price of a new door+ labor and find one in a salvage yard off of a wrecked truck that may offset my $500 deductable some

how hard is it to change one? looks like u just pull the 4 pins out and the wireing harness

how do u adjust for fit with glued on hinges?

does the inshurance company just give u a check and send you on your way? or do u have to use thier hack shop :)

anyone who has gone through this and has any info would be apreciated dont want to get screwed here :( I have nevr dealt with an inshurance company before

I had to go throgh that when the truck was 4 months old and a guy pulled out into traffic right in front of me.  What insurance company do you have?  I just called mine, took the truck into the dealer where I bought (ok, they towed it in) and the insurance company worked w/ the dealer (not mine, but the guy who hit me since it was his fault) and it was no muss no fuss for me.  I didn't have to worry about getting estimates or anything.  So, see if they have a local body shop that they recommend for it that will do all the work and paper work for you.

Only problem I had was getting them to give a punk kid like me a rental car :)

the inshurance company is liberty mutual I get a good price through work not shure how they are

I remember u talking about that it was a lot of damage if I remember corectly, any leftover effects? on this one only thing I am worried about for after effects it if the new door will close right and seal well (it makes a lot of noise on the highway now) if they (or I ) do not the rig right it would be a shame

Yeah, 8grand in damage, mostly front end and right side.  They took there sweet time in fixing it ( a month ), but it all seems okay.  My door howls as well, but I think it was a gm defect since most people have the same problem.  I'm going to take it to the dealer eventually and have them fix it, or just tackle it myself since I don't like leaving the truck there all day only to find out that they couldn;t reproduce.

How did such a short deer do so much damage?

Momentum.  I mean, I could probably take out a few panels if I was running full speed and hit your truck.  And I'm sure that deer is faster than me.

that, and dont forget that this is a 2500HD the bottom of the door is above knee height and the top of the dent is about hip height, it was not verry big it was a buck but no antler yet nor buttons, 150#'s maybe? he must have been moving pretty fast as I never saw him just a big sharp POW noise, at first i thought someone had thrown something at my truck after turning arround and seeing the deer on the side of the road it was obveous what happened,  must have poped out of the woods at full speed, one thing that is odd is that there is deer #### smeared on the door  ??? was he running backwards? (not likely) or did he #### when he saw what was about to happen flinging it all over the place  on impact? ???

two of his legs were mangled (like they had been run over not shure if front or rear tires) maybe he hit the wheel and the ass was flung into the door?

well got a hold of the dealer a new door is $420 primed only no hinges (they have to be glues on something I am not willing to do) So I called a salvage yard he did not have one (any color) and if he did it would be $800 dressed out (door skin, speakers, mirror, electronics, window and window motor) It cannot be sold seperatly

so it is definatly going to the body shop and they are going to get my tax return :)

    • I recall paying $5.00/gallon in 2007 as well, although, different circumstances. A severe windstorm followed by a rare ice storm knocked out power in our region for days. We had a gas generator keeping the fridge cold and our furnace on power, and fuel stations either didn't have power, or didn't have gas because deliveries were delayed because of the storms. Driving around, we found one station that didn't have power but had a sandwich board set up out front. $5.00/gallon. They were hand-pumping it out of the underground tanks. I'm not sure that was legal or even advisable, but we needed it, and they had it. So we filled up. I was just out of college, just bought our house. Times were tight so $5.00 felt really outrageous. Local supermarkets couldn't keep stuff cold so they were basically giving food away. Fridge/freezer cases were literally being emptied out before the food expired. Never seen anything like it before, and until this day this event serves as the boilerplate for our winter storm prep.
    • Have you spilt anything on the console during ownership?  Water, coffee, soda, juice, etc.?   GM has been seeing contaminated console shift controls causing all sorts of issues.  Requires replacing the shift control.
    • If it's something they cannot figure out they can contact GM. They have a case open for noise in the suspension and my whistling drivers mirror they cant figure out how to fix.
    • Thing is gorgeous! Definitely been a LONG time since I've heard that sound!      I wouldn't call myself a purist, since I'll throw Wilwoods and power adders on anything. For me, that engine makes me cringe as a former shop owner remembering all I've been through with some of them. Plus I hate LS engines for their oiling system (MANY places to lose pressure from, especially on the AFM ones which I wouldn't be caught dead with), and the dowel-less front and rear covers - an engineering decision that irks me to no end! And I despise electronics with every fiber of my being.   My main reason for avoiding modern electronics is that when they fail, they typically leave you stranded. Tied for 1st place is also the fact that sometimes troubleshooting super-annoying problems can suck the life right out of you. I've wasted so many hours of my life chasing gremlins on those in all kinds of vehicles. I find carburetors and simple HEI style components much more suitable for keeping my sanity, lol. Different strokes for different folks. I probably get more hate from the younger crowd for sticking with my old school ways of thinking than you would for doing an LS swap.   When everything's working, they're certainly a ton of fun!
    • I have an Edge Insight CTS2 in my '04 3500, and find it works well.  Only real problem I have with it is the obdii connector will work itself free over time, so it stops working and also freaks out the trucks electronics for a bit.  Remove and plug it in and it's good to go.  More recently, I've taken to zip-tying it in place which also seems to work.
