2006 Silverado - Water in door panels

HI all,

I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado extended cab. So I have been searching on here and haven't really found an answer. I recently found my carpet on both driver and passenger sides was soaked. After pulling everything out to dry I sprayed water on the doors to see where the water was coming in at. Found that is was coming from behind the panels. I removed the panels and found that the water was dripping down on the speakers and coming through holes in the panel. These are aftermarket speakers I installed also. So I know where the water is coming in from and after some searching found a way to prevent in from getting on the speakers and coming into the truck. I'm thinking about buying some speaker baffles and cutting the back bottom half off so I am covering the speaker but not sealing in up.

I know water getting in the door panel is normal but my question is how much should be getting in. When I spray a hose on the window near the side mirror it is coming in pretty good and coming down the window slide right where the speaker is located. Not sure if that is normal or not, just seems kind of excessive especially being the speaker is right there. I don't really know how long this has been going on. But I do know those speakers have been in there for at least 4 years now and I have not really noticed any water in the truck before. The only other thing that I have done to the doors is change out the side mirrors about 4 months ago. Do the side mirrors help with sealing the window?

I appreciate any help on this issue.

There is supposed to be a piece of plastic vapor barrier installed between the inner door and the door panel to prevent water from getting through. Door has drains at the bottom to allow water to drain.

Yes it does have the plastic. The water got in through mounting holes from the original speakers that I never covered up after I installed the aftermarket ones. I will be fixing this to prevent water from getting in. But my question is how much water should be coming into the door panel when it does rain? Just running water from a hose over the window it seems like it is coming in pretty good. The water drains down right over the speaker. I was just wondering if this is normal. I will be trying to cover the back of the speaker so it does not get wet again.

There should be NO holes in the vapor barrier. Speaker should be to the inside of the truck with the VB behind it so that water cant get to the speaker. It is not normal for water to run over the speaker.

The speaker sticks through the into the door panel. How is the plastic barrier suppose to go behind it is inside the door panel. I know there is suppose to be a barrier to prevent water getting inside the truck I will also be adding a speaker baffle to cover the speaker so water cannot drip onto it. My question was about the amount of water coming in while its raining. Is it suppose to just drip in or a steady stream or what?
