Service 4WD display on dashboard

Ive got a 2003 Chevey Silverado 1500 4WD...Every few weeks I get the service 4WD only at low speeds of 5-10 mph.  I hear clanking under the engine... and console that let's you chose Auto 4wd, 2H, 4x4L or 4x4 H goes to neutral... I switch into neutral, go back into 2H and then no problems until a few weeks later... Any ideas?

You need to have the resistance in the switch checked. Each position has its own resistance value, if that value changes, that message will appear. Very common issue for that model year was the 4WD Switch. I’ve replaced an ungodly amount of them.
