Brake lights always on

Hey guys, got a 2004 silverado 1500 and whenever I have the ignition on the brake lights are always illuminated. If the truck is off I can press the brake pedal and lights will go on and off like normal. I've read the brake pedal switch could be the problem but I'm confused why the lights work normally with the truck off. Could the BCM be shorting out? 
Any opinions on this would be great because I'm currently stuck.

I had the same thing happen on my 2004 GMC Sierra Denali. I replaced the brake pedal switch and the problem was resolved. It’s a little awkward to get to, you have to be a contortionist.

That is strange. I would start with the brake light switch because I have seen them cause multiple problems. I have done some research on these forums and found a few where people were having the same thing and the brake light switch fixed it.
