Fired up the camera a few days ago and took some pictures after I cleaned them up. The yellow one is the new Honda Foreman 450S. Green one is my trusty old Yamaha Kodiak 400 and the Red is my wife's Honda Rancher 350. The blue one is...hey some idiot parked a Ford in my yard! :

Shot of the LCS dash on the Foreman. It's backlit with odo, trip odo, clock, speedo and engine hours. The one green light is the 4wd indicator.

An older photo my wife took of me washing the Yamaha!

Nice wash job.......... Hope you had your wadders on :D

No but I think I wished I did. I always forget to lify my feet up until I feel cold water running in my boots!

I never plan on doing stuff like that but when you see a new waterhole out in the woods it's hard to resist!

I miss quadding soooooooooo much. I will try to find some of my pics. I sold my quad to get my truck. Was a big sacrafice but worth it. There will always be another time to get a quad. I had a Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. I had it in water up over the seat a few times. And in mud up over the tires. What a bear that thing was. I was going through the same stuff the Hummers were up in PA at Paragon. Soooo Fun. Man do I miss it.

Nice pics.  Is your wife's belt driven?  What kind of trannies do you have in those?

My wife's Rancher has a 5-speed foot shifter with auto clutch. To change gears you just ease up on the throttle and click the pedal up or down to upshift or downshift. It's fulltime 4wd.

The Foreman has the exact same transmission setup except 1st gear is a super low. You can start from a dead stop in 2nd unless there's a hill or a trailer hooked up. The Foreman has electric in/out 4wd button on the handlebars.

The Yamaha Kodiak is an automatic and has a belt drive to transfer power from engine to transmission. It just has a hand shifter for rev, neutral, park, high and lo. It also has in/out 4wd. I've had a little trouble with the belt slipping when it gets in deep water which is why I got the Foreman. Otherwise my Yamaha has been bulletproof with about 2000 miles on it.

I started to sell it but I'm going to hang onto it for now. I think I fixed the leak that was letting water into the belt housing. I plan to use it as my hunting atv because it starts and runs good in cold weather. I also have a box hitch on the back axle and I use it alot to move my trailers short distances around our place.

Tom, the Foreman is new. Just got it last month. I was jealous of you guys' yellow Suzukis so I got a yaller one too! I think the color makes it look like a Caterpillar dozer. My neighbor says it looks like a Taxi. Go figure.

The belt problem seems to be common. Which is why I'm not a huge fan of 'em. Which do you like better, auto or manuel? Personally, I like the manuel, because it gives me something to do while driving. The only thing I don't like about it is downshifting, when you slow down. That manuel set up you got with the auto clutch and foot shifter seem to be the set up used on the new four wheelers.

Nice pics HillHound! My Prairie 300 is very clean at the moment also  I doubt it will stay that way for long though! Just to add to the belt topic, I have 2 Kawasaki Prairie 300s and both have been in deep water and never had water get to the belt. Before I got my automatics I heard terrible stories from some of the guys with other brands that use belts but I have never had a problem with a Kawasaki Belt getting wet.

I just had to get my Rancher dirty today. I didn't plan on damaging it though. A big rock jumped out in front of my atv as I was going a "little" too fast down a rocky path. I thought I could go over the rock. I almost went over the handelbars.

A little rock damage.

Apparently you cant link from Imagestation.

I have pounded a few rocks and did some minor damage a few times! I always look back to see if I am putting down a line of fluid but the skid plates have protected me very well so far!!!

Yea. I'm still trying to find the best place to link from. I hit that rock so hard, it tore hole in the skid plate.

OK, lets try again.

Nice looking machine despite the custom skid plate work! Is that orange and what are the stickers for?

Truckman, I don't know which I like better. With the manual there's no belt to worry about and it is fun to shift. But there are alot of nice things with the blet too. The engine braking is usually better and you're always in the right gear going up a hill etc. I'll have to run the Foreman on a long trip and see what I think.

Silv, the problems I had with the Kodiak's belt wouldn't keep me from buying another auto. What happened is that the air intake tube clamp on the belt case was loose and it was letting mud/water in. I tore it down, cleaned the pulleys and belt and repacked the bearings and it runs fine now so I'm decided to keep it. I've been wanting a new atv with a little more power and decided to try a manual and went with the 450 since my bro-in-law's '01 Foreman has been so tough.

I really like that new Prarie 360 though with the locking front diff. Just didn't want to go under 400cc for the engine although I hear the motor on the 360 has alot of low-end power. One of my friends just bought an '04 Kawi 700cc! :D Can't wait to try it out. It's too big for me but the guy who bought it weighs about 260lbs so it should suit him!
