My longtime ‘91 s10 build

To sum it up, I bought this truck stock when I was 19. It was all rusty and beat up, but drove fine. It was my first vehicle and I drove it daily for years. It is now strictly a project and resides at my parents house because I have nowhere to store it right now.

Since owning it, it’s been fully bagged but kept the original engine and transmission setup.

Setup as follows:

1991 regular cab/standard bed

4.3 with 5 speed manual

2” drop spindles and stock arms

2500lb bags

4 linked rear

Bag over axle setup

2 valves per wheel

1/2” valves

1/2” front airlines

3/8” rear airlines

Viair compressor

5 gallon or so aluminum tank

6 switch (front/rear + each wheel)

Lays frame in the back but the front is currently stopped by the external slave cylinder portion of the transmission casing.

It’s currently apart. I’m putting brand new fenders on,and a brand new hood. Also replacing all the mounting bolts for them. I’m reusing the wiper cowl but currently stripping it down.

My main work currently is doing body work and sanding on the cab and doors. I

Hope to pull it out and mask everything and start laying down color. I’m using “Bright white” single stage paint from Eastwood with a basic hvlp gravity fed gun. I will most likely do a little wet sanding once the whole truck is painted to bring out a little more gloss but in my test painting on a old Fender, I found that just painting did a really nice shine.

My plan is to get the truck painted, minus the bed, and clean up a little on the rear end that’s gotten rusty over the years, and trailer it behind my full-size and take it to about 4-5 nearby car/truck shows this year. It’s coming down to the wire on time though and I work solo.

You've done a great job so far.  Good luck sat the shows.  A bit of advice...

I own a detail shop in California,  and have been doing cut and buffs for over 25 years. Do yourself a favor,  and lay on that clear! Thicker the better. If it's running down the side of the truck,  SUPER.  Then take your time,  and sand to at least 2000. I go as far as 5000 on some cars,  but is it ever worth the trouble.  You can fix damn near ANY blemish with the right cut and buff.

Good luck.
