2005 1500 SLT Ignition (starting)

I have an intermittent no start on my 05 GMC 1500. 172,000 miles, no modifications. When I turn the key to start, I sometimes get nothing at all, most of the time it starts.

- After researching, I replaced the ignition switch under the steering column. Seemed to work for a couple of days but now issue is back. I even changed it again to rule out a bad switch from the parts store.

- My next thought is the starter solenoid, but when I turn the key I do not hear anything trying to engage at all.

- I have been known to break out the parts shotgun :) but was hoping someone is familiar with this issue.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Starter relay or solenoid. If you have time and can get dirty, when symptom occurs, take piece of 10-12g wire underneath and jump the large wire on the starter to the solenoid line (make sure you are in P). If starter engages, then relay is likely problem.

You can also try jumping the relay socket.

Just to update in case others see this issue. After replacing everything else I changed the neutral safety switch on the transmission. It is where the gear selector bolts to the side of the tranny case. This fixed my problem of random no starts (no click, nothing, but all gauge lights lit).
