Changing DRL bulbs

Recommended Posts

I changed out my Daytime Running Lights today and noticed as I was taking them out that the housing they go into was slightly blackened as was the base of the bulb. Is this common after 24,000 miles? They weren't really bad, but they weren't all white anymore...

My thought is that the socket & wiring isn't up to snuff for the bulb, right?

And has anyone replaced their bulbs with amber ones? I found some 3157NA amber bulbs with the same wattage rating as the original 4157K bulbs.

Any problems using these different bulbs?

I changed my DRL's out for amber bulbs a couple of months ago.

The socket was a little black on mine too... with only 14k miles! I think the heat produced by the bulbs cause the discoloration. These suckers are bright!

The bulbs you want to get are the Sylvania 3157NALL / 4157NALL. The pack has both of these #'s on it. The LL is for long-life, They will last a lot longer!

I switched to Sylvania's ambers 4157LL/3157LL when mine was new

50K later they are still working fine, I always see silverado's driving by with one DRL out, looks bad

Yep - this morning a Silverado was following me with it's driver's side light out.

Since I already have the 3157NA bulbs in, I'll just wait until they burn out to get the long lasting ones I guess.

I think I'll keep an eye on my sockets from now on though.

I also have a Kennedy headlight harness - works great...

Hendy,

Yes they do. I just picked up a pair at Autozone. Thought I would try them out before putting the ambers in. I have never seen a truck with the ambers running. But I bet it would be pretty cool.

Cool, thanks lonewolf, I will cruise by autozone and get amber and the super bright to see what looks the best. Too bad it's illegal to have red or blue running lights in front!!!

LOL!!

The ones I got are actually blue untill they turn on. Then they are a bright white.

I let my boys talk me into getting them but wound up liking them myself..

I really like the amber lights I just put in - they're brighter than the parking lights. Sure looks better! Especially with a dark truck like mine.

I swapped out my DRLs for amberw/ 12 miles on the truck and the sockets were already blackened. Checked them the other day at aprox. 8000 miles and they were almost charred? Love the amber though. Do they have the brighter lights in amber and where are you finding them. Thanks,

I took mine out yesterday, those puppies have been VERY hot!! But I am sure its because they are always on. I think half the trucks I see on the road have one burned out. The headlight lens the bulbs are in seems to be a little milky in color, seems to have taken some heat too. I will be getting both amber and super white just to see what I like best and switch back and forth for a new look here and there. Adjustment was alot easier than I thought it would be. Just 2 torx adjustments, one for up and down, and one for side to side. Easy to get to and a standard size torx.

k-bye
