tb velocity stack

I was watching trucks! on spike tv the other day. Stacey was talking about a new product for the throttle body of 98-04 gm truck/suv that smooths the airflow for more speed. If anyone has seen the inside of the tb, on the 03's there is a big groove in the bottom. They claim it will work better than porting and polishing. Anybody tried this yet? $50 and 30 day guarantee for mpg and hp and tq increases. Here are the sites http://www.truckstv.com/truckgear/ on saturday 8/16/03

According to their Dyno chart, HP didn't change but 23 ft/lb of Torque was gained... That's a nice little increase in "Grunt" .

Similar product that's been out for the TPI engines. Bolt in "butterfly" between the throttle body blades. Theory was that air would split smoothly to the two throttle blades instead of turbulating on the flat surface between the blades. At least the filler aluminum made the throttle body look cooler.

Yeah, it seems to good to be true...just like those tornado filter inserts. Even if it did make a difference, wouldn't all the turbulance upstream of the throttle body in the air intake cancel it out?

I agree....sounds too good to be true.

But if anyone feels like dropping the 50 bucks I would be courious to find out your results. I had one of those TBI spacers that "smooths" the air going into the throttle body on my old 93 4.3L s10 and it did give a little better throttle response but no seat of the pants power gains.

To properly test any mod, there should be 2 dyno sessions to evaluate before/after effects. That adds $50-$100 to the price, and it's non refundable.

I might try this and compare it to the gas mileage saved according to the DIC. I did the tb bypass and it gave me about .5mpg by keeping the driving conditions the same. Went from an average of 19.4 to from 19.9-20.2mpg only difference being the temp was avg of 10degrees higher with high humidity. Maybe this mod would show up in fuel savings too, but if it really gives 24ftlbs, id say the butt dyno should be able to "feel" a difference w/o officially getting it dynoed. should be able to smoke the tires longer too. http://www.mototuneusa.com

on there they talk about actually decreasing intake at the mouth because they say it's not the sheer volume, but rather the faster velocity at the intake which makes more power. If this things smooths it out and slightly decreases it, it should make the velocity faster.

Looking at the pictures of the thing installed, it looks like my ported throttle body I have on my 5.3. The gains from it was very minimal in both hp and torque. I'll see if I can find some pictures of my t-body.

I'll buy one when they reimburse my dyno pulls to confirm their claim! :flag: It's all smoke and mirrors boys!!

Yeah, it'd be nice if all aftermarket companies would do this. I wonder if K&N, magnaflow, and royal purple did so to make sure they weren't smoke.

I feel like being a test subject, and I just bought one of those nifty gtechs that analyze the crap out of everything. That and I just got 70 dollars worth of rebates from my monitor, so I'm all about trying new crap out.

I'll do a few gtech runs before and after the mod and let you guys know.

After I get my paycheck of course :chevy:
