It looks like I will be moving to an area without cable (g-bye roadrunner :flag: )

I would also be interested in satellite internet.

Directv all the way.....they get everything, they are cheaper than cable (everywhere I have lived) and you can't beat their customer service(in my experience)....one of the best things I think I like about them, is you can order pay channels like HBO, skinimax, starz...blah blah...for a day or a month....they'll just pro-rate the price. I don't have their internet service, but I hear it's pretty good...unless you're a gamer.... then the lag from the sat to the ground gets you....usually 20 millisecs each way for a total of 40....but for just normal web and email...movies and such, I hear it's really fast.......of course the drawbacks to any sattelite is the weather....I rarely lose my signal except for really heavy t-storms that come from the west, but even then it'll only be out for a few mins at a time, when I had cable sometimes I would lose it for days at a time, cause some jackass would cut the line somewhere....but then again it was Adelphia

Direct TV rocks. Nuff said,

But for the internet, now that is a little pricey for me. I'm sticking with dial up because I can't afford the price for sat internet. DSL is suppose to be out my way in December but I'm not holding my breath.

You can't go wrong with Directv. I take my reciever to our lake house on the weekends and we get everything there and it doesn't cost anything extra since we already have the service. You can do that anywhere. Once you have the service you can hook up to another dish anywhere in the continental US and get service at no extra cost. Heck they even make dishs that rotate on top of RV's and keep you locked in on the SAT signal while you drive. :chevy: Try that Time Warner.

I like Dish Network, but like I tell everybody, Figure it out for yourself. The packages are different and so is the equipment. Figure out what channels you really watch and check to see which provider is covering your area for locals. Also Dish is running a special where you get a free PVR. I have one and love it. It doesn't cost extra like TIVO. Look at the monthly cost for both and make an educated decision based on all of the information as it pertains to you and your family. :chevy:

Jones,

ya, that is what I am starting now.

Does one seem to have a stronger signal (better poor weather performance)?

I don't really watch much sports, I would get more movies. I understand DTV has an excellent sports package, which is a waste for me.

I am mainly interested inthe following channels:

Speedvision

TNN

Discovery

History

CMT

HBO

Weather channel (does either provide LOCAL weather like cable does?)

FOX

ABC/NBC/CBS

Has anyone had any terrible experience with either?

DirectTV has a weather cahnnel where you punch in your zip code and it will save it. Now everytime you hit that channel you get weather for your area only. Not sure if DiSH has it or not.

I've had Direct TV and Dish. I like Direct TV better. I live out in the country and there is no high speed internet out here except for satellite. I looked into it a few months ago and the only people that have anything good to say about it are the ones selling it. Larry E is the first person I've heard of that likes it. Do a seach on Google and look for discussion groups about it. I was going to get it until I saw what people were saying about it. You can find alot of used equipment cheap.

Understand this though about satellite broadband. It is good for downloading and surfing the internet, but if you do anykind of online gaming it completely sucks ass.

I went over to the DirecWay website and just can not justify the almost $580 hardware and instalation fee they charge :jester::lol::lol:

I'll just have to live with dialup :chevy:
