Help With Towing Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I'm picking up a '66 Chevy (manual transmission, 2x4) in a few weeks and need to tow it back to Seattle (from Montana). My two options for towing it are the full car carrier or a tow dolly that you drive the front two wheels onto.

I'm curious what is the best option?

If I use the tow dolly, would I have to disconnect the driveline first? My buddy said I shouldn't have to because its a manual transmission. Is this right?

You will defiantely need to drop the drive shaft if you use a dolly...I reccomend using a trailer if you can get one ,could save you alot of trouble plus it would be easier to tow....Gun

Full Car carrier. I wouldn't want to risk the rearend coming apart on the old truck or a blowout either. That is as long as the full car carrier is in better shape than the '66.

When I picked up my stang (it was approx 100 miles from home) I used a 2 wheel dolly. I removed the driveshaft just to cover my ass to prevent any type of damage from happening. But if you can get a full car trailer, that would be the best way.
