I've got a 1999 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 with 300,000 miles, need to rebuild my transfer case but cant afford for my truck to be down very long, my buddy has a spare 2005 np246 with low miles, I know the encoder motors are different, my question is can the slotted cam out of my 1999 transfer case be put into the 2005 transfer case

01 they changed vehicle body style and who knows what else. I'd call your local transmission shop or search for transmission forums. You could check on a salvage website and see if it crossreferences over...

Never mind I think this may help you more. I got to the part where the first reply was made and read it. I'd say your answer is in there. There is differences.

You can get the parts or drop the t-case out and schedule it to go in and be out the same day I'm sure if you work with your local transmission shop. That or get a remanufactured one and swap it and turn your core in unless you want to keep the core to rebuild it and have a spare sitting ready to go.

Good post and link. I glanced through it and it mentions that the slotted shift cam is different on the '03 and newer. So, OP probably can't just swap those.
