Painting Interior Pieces

Was painting some plastic interior pieces and started out by painting over original layer of paint with new paint. The paint has not bonded well and i am worried about it eventually flaking/rubbing off. I went to the paint store and told them my problem and they said to sand it, but the plastic is textured and i dont want to lose that. I suggested using paint thinner, but they said this might melt the plastic. I want to get all the paint off, prep the plastic, put an adhesive on, then re-paint. Any ideas on how to do this are greatly appreciated. By the way i am using SEM color coat for paint, and SEM plastic prep, and an aerosal adhesion promoter. If you have any other product sugestions, i am all ears. Thanks in advance.

There is another guy on this forum that has done this I'm supprised he hasn't chimmed in.

Not sure how to do it but bringing it back to the top in-case it got overlooked.

LarryE has painted a lot of his interior.

I've done a few pieces. What I did was use a plastics primer first and then a few light coats of paint, then some clear coat. I used a little steel wool to scuff up the surface first and in beetween coats of primer to smooth it all out.
