Well last night was intresting .

Went to bed around 1/4 to 10 around 11pm got woke up by my pager going off .

The call was for a reported fire in a defunct warehouse (this building shut down about 2 years ago and was a popular site for punks to vadalize ) .

Rolled my lazy ass out of bed started to get dressed when i heard the first engine roll . Got out of my driveway and about halfway to the station when I heard the first engine arrive on scene.

First due engine reported heavy fire from the east side of the building and through the roof bulidings approx size was 75'x200'x30' and requested additional tones and M/A from neighboring cities

I arrived at the station shortly after and rolled L-18 with 4 others on board.

We arrived on scene and laid 300ft of 5" and sat up a defensive aerial attack on the north east corner of the building . the first due engine (107) already had a 5" line laid and had a master stream going on the south east corner of the buliding.

second due engine got on scene about 3-4 mins after us and they laid a 5" line from a hydrant 1 block away (other side of complex entrance) and started master stream operations next to the first engine

R-9 arrived with the second due engine and was staged at command on stand by

when the mutual aid companies from neighboring towns arrived we placed the engine from zillah on the north side of the building with their master stream and the ladder from grandveiw on the south side of the building with their master stream grandveiw ladder had their own 5 inch line from a hydrant on site while the zillah engine was supplied by our ladders supply line and pump through a 5"line

Shortly after they started we had another ladder arrive from the city of yakima and 3 engines from sunnyside, wapato, and union gap that were staged at command and man power used sunnyside engine was later moved to the other side of Grandveiw ladder and sat up master stream operations . The ladder from yakima started master stream operations on the same side as us they were at about the middle of the north side .

Luckily this fire was in the industrial area of town so the water system could supply the high demand .

We got this under control at about 4am and cleared about 0630 with an engine and 6 personel remaining on scene and finally got units in service at approx 0730

The building was a total loss with only the west side and about half of the northside wall remaining

Cause of the fire is suspicious because there is no power or other utilites supplied to the building

So i'm tired but cant go to sleep cause im still worked up over this

Long boring post

Ill see if the newspaper people can get me some copies of pics

He's a Fireman, the requested m/a (mutual aid) from other nearby towns, in order to do this, over their communications systems (which can be picked up with a scanner) they send out emergency tones. When those tones are heard, you get your arse in gear and moving, it's serious.

They then set up a perimeter around the building with their trucks (as can be seen in the sketch) with those using the main lines from fire hydrants in the heaviest corner of the building. Once again, see his squiggly lines inside the box, that's the affected area.

Those punk probably fired up way tooo many blunts and the 5ft bong at once. :)

Thanks. I did get the jist of it. I have a few friends who are firemen in my town. But I never heard the lingo before. I was like Whoa that is another language. Thanks for the info though. I learned more here than at work today. HAHA

Ditto on what cmnt said .

Except the tones here broadcast certain pitches in the frequency that activates pagers for a certain station each one is different .

As for my sketch it is extremley ghetto :)

the green squares represent hydrants , dark red lines almost a brown color represent the supply lines (5" diameter hose) , the purple lines are where unmanned monitors were set up ( 2 1/2" hose feeding a fixed nozzle) , and the blue lines are manned 2 1/2" or 1 3/4" lines .

The building was full of wooden pallets which contributed to the speed in which this spread. the overhaul crew also discovered a gasoline can just inside the building where the rollup door on the south side was located

Oh yea btw master stream (aka deck guns)are the monitors (big water guns) that are mounted on top of most pumper trucks usually above the pump controls and on the tip of a ladder truck

Sorry, I forgot to mention those tone frequencies set off pagers. I hated when I used to have one and it'd go off for every messycan who got drunk and wrapped his Tijuana special around a light post or tree.
