tranny squeak

i was wondering if it is normal to hear a faint squeak coming from an automatic tranny, when it shifts from 1st-2nd @ wot. its a 5.3 in a tahoe w/ 3.42 locking rear.

btw. i was doin it a couple times to see if i was hearing things, but it was consistant

if i did burn up a band, would it continue to do it under normal driving as well?

At first it'll be a metallic shriek under high rpm shifts. Eventually, you'r gonna have slippage under all conditions.

Mine does the same thing with only 7,000 miles. Nice huh? Not every time, but every once in a while, it makes almost a low pitch whistle sound on the one-two shift.

Add that to the inconsistant but ever present rough idle that makes the console rattle, the wispering a/c valve (it whispers through the vents when the a/c is running which I have been told is some valve in the a/c that the coolant passes through) and what you come up with is a very annoying experience that no one seems to think is significant enough to fix, including me.

I thought we got past bad transmissions, rough idles, and noisy a/c in the 80's.
