Messed up PAINT

This weekend I took a trip to Tulsa on the way home I started to smell diesel (my truck is gas) I passed this dually Dodge that was leaking massive amounts of fuel from his left rear fender. I flagged him down told him he was leaking fuel. He said that he forgot to stop transferring fuel from his aux tank. He had an extra tank in his bed. He said every thing was fine and he had it under control, so I drove on. About a half hour later I realized that I had small drops of what I thought was rain (Night driving) but it was not evaporating like water would do and I still sort of smelled diesel fuel! I pulled over and checked out my truck to find that the front end was covered in diesel fuel!!!! I quickly found a car wash and washed it off!! BUT now I have little white spots all over my hood!!!:lol::D What to do now???:mad::mad: I was hoping that some one might have some ideas one how to remove or fix the spots. I can always turn it in to my insurance but I would rather try to fix it myself if possible!! The spots look like permanent water spots I haven’t tried to buff them out yet but I have washed the truck several times. I will try to buff it out when I get up tomorrow. Any ideas and or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Not sure, I have heard of people putting Kerosene all over their vehicles to make them shine, Diesel fuel isnt far from kerosene, I didnt think it would do any damamge. I dont know what you are going to do, are the spots like over the paint or did it take the paint off?

I've never seen Diesel hurt paint before. We have some diesle pickups at work and they haven't been harmed buy spilling diesel down the side when filling them with fuel or spilling it in the bed all the time. I've used it to clean tar off of my truck. I'd say it has probably stripped your wax off. Should be fine when you wax it.

Good call on the idea of it stripping off the wax...I have never seen diesel screw up paint either. I bet it just took off your wax coat. Re-wash it with dawn soap (to take all the wax off) then maybe clay bar it, then re-wax. Hopefully that will work. Good luck!

I'd think a good coat of wax would take care of it. I've got a Duramax in my Silverado and a couple of times at a truck stop (those huge nozzles that run fast to get the truckers going again) didn't shut off in time and I had fuel on the side of mine. Just washed it once home and I've never had any problems with spotting.

Thanks for the advice. After reading all the replies I went back out and took another look at it and I think it does look as if the wax was stripped off from spots. I will try to rewax the truck when the rain stops.

Thanks,

Matt

Bummer man. If buffing it doesn't work try using a clay bar you'll be amazed by how much crap it will take out of the paint pores.

I can vouch for that,

as far as diesel vs. kerosene though; im not too sure about that one...
