01 to 04 a.c. control swap

I have an 01 ext cab Silverado and I'm interested in swapping to the 03-07 dash which has th slightly larger area for a double din head unit (which is my reasoning for wanting to do so) my question is can you just swap for the newer style controller, not the digital just the base control or do you modify the original mounts to fit the 01 controller to the newer dash bezel? Any pics would be super helpful!

It's my understanding there is a significant wiring&computer change with the GMT800's either for '03 or '04, so I wouldn't expect it to be plug-n-play (as in, I'm assuming you are keeping the existing '01 wiring harness, and want to plug in the later A/C controller).  You probably will want to mount the '01 controller in the new dash.

 

Be careful with the passenger side airbag, as it may be electrically different between the two trucks, and may go boom at the wrong time.
