changing spark plugs on a 4.3

I tried changing my plugs and wires on my '97 Bravada last night. What a pain in the arse!!!! Most of the plugs I had to access through the wheelwells and the middle plug on the driver's side was impossible. I could get a spark plug socket on it, but couldn't get an extension or ratchet on it to get it off. Then it was nearly impossible to get the spark plug socket off of the plug when I realized I couldn't get a wrench on it. The reason this plug was so hard to get to was because of the steering intermediate shaft. Does this shaft have to be removed to get this plug out or are there any tricks that you guys know of?

that angle makes it tough. you need to use a universal and have someone help line it up from the top. took me a while when I put my headers in to get the threads started.
