4L80e takes 2-3 seconds to engage

The 4L80E in my '95 G30 box truck takes 2-3 seconds to engage when put into either Drive or Reverse. Otherwise it performs normally.  The fluid level is correct and the fluid is not burned, but the truck sat unused for 8 years. Could it simply be a clogged filter?
