Shocks

Ok all, I have been going over and over what type of shocks I want to replace the OEM's. I have a 2001 Tahoe 4WD with the auto-level suspension in the rear.. (I believe that's what they call it) I mostly travel on-road at highway speeds and very rarely go off-road. Although, I don’t want to lose that option.

I'm looking to keep a nice smooth ride over having more of an off road capability. So, do you guys think I’d be better going with the Edelbrock Performer AIS or the Bilstein HD’s? Or maybe some other type of shock? I’ve read here on the BB that if you have the auto-leveling rear shocks, that there is a spring that comes with the Bilstein’s to maintain the rear height(?) Does anyone know that part number? I don’t see it listed on the Autozone website.

Well anyway, I’d appreciate any input that anyone would have…

Do you mean the "ride control suspension"?

I think those are special shock absorbers you can only get from GM ....

If you replaced them, you wouldn't really have "ride control" anymore I guess

No, it's not called auto ride suspension. I believe it's called auto leveling. It's all in the shock itself.

Anyone? Suggestions?

My understanding is the Yukons and Burbon's have a autoride system, with this system the shocks measure travel 32 times a second to adjust ride smoothness over varing terrain. the Envoy's and Tblazers have a auto leveling suspension that keeps the rear at a constant level no matter the payload. Since I have not seen one it would be my guess the yukon's shocks have sensors connected to them that relay backand forth to the coputer also since they stiffen there is probably a hydro or gas line on them to so I'm not sure what will happen to these components if they are not replaced witht he same style shock.
