HELP Air Bag Light is on

Recommended Posts

Tonight while turning into a tight parking spot I turned the wheel to a full - lock and I felt this odd feeling in the wheel while i heard some noise. Thought..Hum that was odd. Went into store, and when I came out and started my car the AirBag lamp is on.

Last weekend I did replace / lube my intermediate steering shaft, but I thought I did my best to make sure I didn't let the wheel turn any full rotations. I pulled off the shroud arounf the steering column / ignition area and didn't see anything Obvisously wrong. I see there is this "clock spring" black box area with a yellow cable out of it. My guess is my problem is within that thing. But how the hec do you replace it? I assume pull the wheel...and how do I do that?

ANY insight here would be awesome! I don't want to take it to the dealer...I do have an extended warr. but I have a feeling they won't cover it, and I have a $200 dect.

Please help. Im not a fan of driving around with what I assume is an in-operable airbag!

Thanks in advance!!

i think the extended warranty would cover it. Be very careful messing this the airbag. Get a service manual, because there is a procedure to disable the airbag before servicing it.

Just called Chevy I guess the part I am ASSUMING is bad is called Inflation device steering wheel module kit or something.

THey want 115 bucks for it. May be worth calling on my warr. and let the dealer fix. BUT I dont want them to say its b/c of something I did when I lubed the steering shaft.

Ugh!! what to do

Anyone know enough about this stupid module and how to replace?
