2004 Sierra Motor Rebuild or Replace

I have this great 2004 Sierra with a 5.3 ans 272K on it. The last probably 20K have been rough. The engine is slowly expiring.

I have had 3 mechanics (so called experts) including a local dealer tell me rebuilding is not worth it and to buy a crate motor. I hear mixed opinions the crate motors from Summit/ Jasper/ Jegs etc. that these fail soon after the warranty.  A Reman GM motor sounds like best option but the last quote from a dealer was 8K, and a local shop said 6800. Would rebuilding this motor really be more expensive? Any opinions on the crates? Trucks still runs decent. On some days it runs great.

Yep, 300k is the average end of life.

Try http://www.dahmerpower.com/. 100k/36 no warranty.

I have installed 2 of their rebuilds. Running 80k and 45k without a single problem.

Takes about a 3 day weekend to pull and install.

If you are going to find someone to rebuild, find a shop that the racing crowd uses
